<p>I was standing precariously on a treadmill dangling 15 feet above the  seats, about to crash through a wall and wondering what exactly I was  doing.</p>
<p>I felt like I had signed up for some absurd obstacle course. But, no, it was a mock tryout for Fuerza Bruta &#8211; the popular interactive, acrobatic show in the Union Square East studio.</p>
<p>Cast member John Hartzell gave me a simple piece of advice before I started trotting: &#8220;Make sure  you run through the wall. Whatever you do, don&#8217;t let the wall run  through you.&#8221;</p>
<p>Huh?</p>
<p>Anyway, I began jogging as the treadmill  sped up. Then I broke into a full sprint and stared intently as a  cardboard wall &#8211; meant to look like brick &#8211; neared.</p>
<p>&#8220;Now!&#8221; Hartzell shouted.</p>
<p>Three seconds later, the tech hands had stopped the treadmill.</p>
<p>I  was supposed to blast through the wall in a powerful display. Instead I  was left blinded and covered head to toe in cardboard shreds.</p>
<p>&#8220;What happened? The wall ran through you,&#8221; Hartzell told me.</p>
<p>The mishap was one of many for me.</p>
<p>At  points, I nearly ran off the treadmill, butchered an on-stage dance  routine and fell four times inside the &#8220;Mylar,&#8221; a hovering, translucent  inflatable pool the cast gracefully slides in during the show&#8217;s final  routine.</p>
<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s not as easy as it looks, is it?&#8221; asked &#8220;Fuerza Bruta&#8221; production stage manager Roumel Reaux.</p>
<p>Not by a long shot.</p>
<p>After my treadmill tripups, I stepped into the Mylar thinking this would be an easy break from my workout.</p>
<p>I should have known better.</p>
<p>When dancer Brooke Miyasaki &#8211; balancing on her hands and feet as her body contorted upward &#8211; told  me to slide under her, I gracelessly slipped onto my back like one of  the Three Stooges.</p>
<p>The  Mylar proved to be a lot of fun as the dancers and I swished around and  peered through the bottom of the pool with our faces in the water.</p>
<p>I didn&#8217;t exactly make a splash during my tryout, so I doubt I&#8217;ll get a callback.</p>

<p style="text-align:left;">Running 50 miles in each of the 50 states  within 2 months &ndash; is it possible? It is the challenge that Lisa Smith  Batchen, ultra marathon runner, has resolved to fulfill and Damascus  Bakeries is &nbsp;proud to be &nbsp;a sponsor of this unique event, &ldquo;Running Hope  through America.&rdquo;. Only two marathon runners have succeeded in running  the same &nbsp;distance in each of the 50 states, but not within a two month  period. Lisa is the first ultra-runner to attempt such an intense  challenge.&nbsp;&nbsp; The race started on April 19th, in Morristown, New Jersey.  All of the funds raised during the marathon will be split between 4  organizations that &nbsp;help orphans around the world.&nbsp;</p>
<p>&nbsp;It was an easy decision for Damascus Bakeries to join Lisa&rsquo;s team  and support this worthwhile cause. What is more satisfying than visiting  &nbsp;the numerous&nbsp;and scenic landscapes in this country while &nbsp;pushing your  limits, and using your passion toward &nbsp;such a valuable cause that makes  you feel you are actively improving the world? The beauty of this  marvelous adventure will be reflected through the happiness that  millions of orphans will experience&nbsp;&nbsp; thanks to the funds raised.&nbsp;</p>

Thanks to Lisa, Edward successfully completed his first  Marathon, and&nbsp;was inspired to &nbsp;run more marathons, including a 50 mile  run to raise money for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Edward was  running with Lisa&nbsp;in&nbsp;New Jersey on monday and in&nbsp;Central Park on  tuesday. And&nbsp;of course,&nbsp;he didn&rsquo;t come&nbsp;empty-handed, but brought&nbsp;a batch  of &nbsp;delicious&nbsp;healthy sandwiches&nbsp;made at Damascus Bakery.&nbsp;Everybody  enjoyed it thoroughly !&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">Native to Vicksburg Mississippi, Lisa and  her siblings grew up very involved in sports. Given her upbringing,it is  no surprise that Lisa is such a successful ultra marathon runner and  that she has won many ultra- marathons. Her first participation was at  the &nbsp;renowned Badwater Ultra Marathon in 1995&nbsp;where she finished &nbsp;2<sup>nd</sup> in the women&rsquo;s division. Lisa was one of the only &nbsp;women to  participate, eleven years later, in &nbsp;the Badwater Double.&nbsp; She is also  the first American in the women&rsquo;s division to win the &ldquo;Marathon des  Sables&rdquo; in 1999, one of the most difficult race in the world, in&nbsp;the  south of Morocco. More than a talented runner, she is a passionate  advocate for humanitarian causes &nbsp;while making the most of her talent  with other famous ultramarathon runners who also &nbsp;&nbsp;fundraise for the  AIDS Orphans Rising.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
